The New Breed was a side-project of mine whose purpose was to raise money for my friend and metal brother Scot Goacher. Scot had an unfortunate accident and broke his hip in three places. This left him unable to drum for almost a year, which meant no income. His doctor bills were piling up, and Scot, his wife and his son needed help in making ends meet until he could get up and get back behind the kit where he belonged.
After deciding to do this cd, I called up some old friends and got them to sit in with me to lay down nine new songs. It was a blast, and I have to commend Lon Weaver (guitars), Dan Dreher (drums) and Jeff Gragg (bass) for being able to walk in my studio on a Friday night and have all the basic tracks recorded by Monday! We didn’t go for polish, we went for fun and I think it shows. I also rang up some other folks and they agreed to help out as well, such as Stefan Leibing of Primal Fear, Allan Atkins, founder and original vocalist for Judas Priest, Mike Campese, a master shredder from NYC who has also has written instructional articles in Guitar World magazine, and Chris “Wah Wah” Watson, an excellent axe player from the 80’s NWOBHM band “Black Rose”. I appreciated all their help; their musicianship as well as friendship is truly a blessing.
